Dragons conquer BNL 3-1 in season debut

SELLERSBURG – Silver Creek recorded a 3-1 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during the boys high school soccer season opener on Saturday.

Kameron Robinson scored twice as the Dragons rallied after allowing a quick BNL goal. The Stars struck first at 35:35 of the first half when Ian Wilcher connected off an Owen Williams long pass.

“Ian was able to split the defenders and then calmly finished,” BNL coach Ryan Otis said. “We need to feed him more through balls. We had several chances.”

Robinson started the Silver Creek comeback with a goal at 6:09 of the first half, knocking home a header off a crossing pass. Napoleon Langford put the Dragons ahead with 35:37 left, converting a header from a corner kick.

Robinson added an insurance goal off a penalty kick with 6:03 remaining.

”The kids played really hard,” Otis said. “It was hot. We took a water break in the first half and two in the second half. That made it hard to get in a rhythm.

”Our inexperience showed today. We started two seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and a freshman. We need to adjust to the speed of the game. A lot of those guys have minimal varsity experience. I’m happy with the effort. We have a quick turnaround with three games next week.”

BNL will visit Scottsburg on Tuesday.
