Lawrence County to meet with FEMA for storm reimbursement

LAWRENCE CO. — Following a major disaster declaration by President Trump in July for 23 Indiana counties, including Lawrence County, FEMA representatives are scheduled to be in the area next week to discuss federal public assistance. The declaration comes after severe storms and tornadoes impacted the state from late March into early April.

According to Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer, FEMA officials will meet with representatives from Oolitic and Bedford, as well as the Lawrence County Highway Department and Sheriff’s Department, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week to discuss reimbursement for storm-related damages.

In other news, Luchauer is also working with Persimmon Festival officials and first responders to develop a safety plan for the 2025 Mitchell Persimmon Festival, which is set to take place from September 20th to September 27th.
