Two men killed in Owen County shooting; juvenile detained

SPENCER — Two men were found shot to death in a driveway in Owen County on Saturday afternoon, and a juvenile has been detained as a person of interest in the case.

The Owen County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were called to a home north of Spencer around 3:42 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. At the scene, deputies discovered the bodies of 61-year-old Jefferey Fauber and 41-year-old Grantham Adam Chandler lying in a driveway. Both men appeared to have died from gunshot wounds.

As the investigation got underway, a juvenile male reportedly walked into the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office in Martinsville. He informed authorities about a “criminal incident” that had occurred in Owen County. The Martinsville Police Department was called to the scene and detained the male. While police have not officially connected the juvenile to the shooting, Owen County Sheriff Ryan White identified a juvenile as a person of interest in the double homicide. Due to the individual’s age, no further identifying information has been released.

During a press conference, Owen County Prosecutor Benjamin Kim stated that his office would determine whether to charge the juvenile as an adult after all evidence has been reviewed.

The Owen County Sheriff’s Department investigation was a joint effort with assistance from the Indiana State Police, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, the Bloomington Police Department, and various other local emergency services.

Sheriff White praised the collaboration between agencies, noting, “It is heartwarming to see law enforcement officers and public servants come together for the good of the people.”
