FAYETTEVILLE — Several vehicles were left stranded Tuesday at the intersection of Old Farm Road and Johnson Lane in Fayetteville after attempting to drive through floodwaters, highlighting the growing danger posed by recent heavy rains across Lawrence County.
Video taken at the scene shows multiple cars stuck in the water, which had risen high enough to submerge much of the roadway. Local roads throughout the county have seen similar conditions after days of intense rainfall overwhelmed ditches, drains, and low-lying areas.

Emergency crews responded to multiple calls for assistance as motorists attempted to navigate water-covered streets. Officials are urging the public to avoid driving through flooded areas under any circumstance, as doing so puts drivers and passengers at serious risk. Even shallow water can lead to stalled engines, loss of control, or road collapse.
Flood advisories remain in place for many parts of southern Indiana as the region continues to deal with saturated ground and the threat of additional rainfall.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution, avoid roads that appear to be covered in water, and monitor local updates for closures and safety information.
