BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence opened the 2025 season with a ninth-place finish in the Bloomington South Invitational during girls high school golf action on Monday.

The event, moved to Stonecrest because of renovation work at Bloomington Country Club, featured six teams ranked in the preseason coaches poll. No.4 Franklin won the team prize with 301, followed by No.17 Floyd Central (305), No.7 Batesville (309) and No.8 Center Grove (311). The Stars, playing at less than full strength, posted 357.

Sammie Nusbaum paced BNL with a sensational round of 1-over 72 on the West and East courses at Stonecrest. She birdied the second and third holes on the West, then finished with birdies on the eighth and ninth holes on the East layout.

”Sammie really stepped up,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “She’s played a lot of rounds this summer and it’s showing. She played with confidence and recovered so well when she needed to.”

Emma Voris (83), Kadynn Canada (94) and Bella Warren (108) capped the scoring for the Stars. Kinleigh Root, the lone senior, was unable to play in the opener.

“Overall it’s a pretty good start to the season,” Stigall said. “I’m excited to see what this group can do.”

The Stars, with Root set to rejoin the team and complete the fivesome for scoring, will compete in the Seymour Invitational on Tuesday.
