Moped driver dies in three-vehicle crash in Daviess County

DAVIESS CO. – A multi-vehicle accident involving a FedEx truck and a moped on Thursday, July 31, has resulted in the death of a moped driver, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:41 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 257 and US 50.

Initial investigations by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office indicate that Gina Graber of Loogootee was driving a 2014 Ford Edge eastbound on US 50 when her vehicle collided with a 2015 FedEx truck, driven by Daniel Altmeyer of Huntingburg, who was traveling southbound on State Road 257.

Following the initial collision, the FedEx truck then struck a 2023 Honda moped that was stopped on the south side of the intersection. The driver of the moped was identified as Jake Kuykendall of Olney, Illinois.

As a result of the collision, Kuykendall was thrown from the moped. Kuykendall was transported to Daviess Community Hospital and subsequently transferred to a hospital in Evansville, where he passed away during the night. His family has been notified.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department is the lead investigating agency, with the Indiana State Police assisting with accident reconstruction.

Agencies that assisted at the scene included the Washington City Police Department, the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Daviess County Ambulance Service, Craney’s Wrecker Service, and Briggeman’s Wrecker Service.
