INDIANA–The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) has announced a significant restructuring aimed at enhancing support for older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities across the state. The former Division of Aging has been rebranded as the Bureau of Better Aging. It will now operate within a newly formed entity: the Division of Disability, Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DDARS).

This strategic reorganization, according to FSSA, underscores a renewed commitment to ensuring that all Hoosiers can age with dignity, foster strong connections, and live purposeful lives. The newly established DDARS will encompass four distinct bureaus:
- Bureau of Child Development Services (BCDS)
- Bureau of Disabilities Services (BDS)
- Bureau of Better Aging (BBA)
- Bureau of Rehabilitative Services (BRS)
By integrating the Bureau of Better Aging within DDARS, FSSA anticipates enhanced collaboration, streamlined access to resources, and a more robust infrastructure to support individuals throughout their lifespan.
What Remains Unchanged:
FSSA emphasizes that existing services and support for older adults will continue without any interruption. This structural change will not affect eligibility criteria, access to programs, or the quality of services that individuals currently rely on. Hoosiers can expect to receive the same trusted support from their local Area Agencies on Aging and established service providers.
The Rationale Behind the Name Change:
The decision to rename the Division of Aging to the “Bureau of Better Aging” reflects a forward-thinking vision. This new name aims to embrace innovation, promote holistic well-being, and foster inclusive community living for older adults. By consolidating the work of these divisions, FSSA is striving to create more integrated systems that are better equipped to serve the evolving needs of individuals as they age, all while preserving the effectiveness of current successful programs.
The FSSA expressed its eagerness to continue its work alongside communities and stakeholders to ensure Indiana remains a place where every individual can thrive at every stage of life.
