DNR needs your help counting turkeys

INDIANA – Have you spotted any wild turkeys lately? If so, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wants to hear from you! The agency is urging Hoosiers to report their turkey sightings as it approaches the halfway point of its annual Turkey Brood Survey.

With a goal of 3,500 submissions by August 31, the DNR has currently collected around 1,000 observations. Your contributions are crucial to reaching their target and gathering vital data on the state’s turkey populations.

If you’ve already submitted observations this year, thank you for your continued support! Please keep those reports coming. If you haven’t yet participated, now’s the time to lend a hand. Sharing your sightings of turkey hens, both with and without poults (young turkeys), is quick and provides valuable information for the DNR’s population tracking and management efforts across Indiana.

The DNR relies heavily on these public observations and is incredibly grateful for every report. Every bit of data helps them understand the health and distribution of turkey broods.

How to Report Your Turkey Sightings:

All turkey brood observations should be submitted online through the DNR’s Turkey Brood Reporting Tool. It’s a simple process that takes just a few moments of your time but makes a big difference for wildlife conservation in Indiana.

Let’s help the DNR finish strong and get a clear picture of Indiana’s turkey population this year!
