DELAWARE CO. – On Saturday, July 26, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Master Trooper Shawn Cosgrove attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black 2021 GMC Terrain for a traffic violation on State Road 332 near County Road 700 West. The driver refused to stop and accelerated, initiating a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit continued southbound on County Road 600 W from Jackson Street and eventually entered Madison County. The vehicle eventually crashed into a utility pole near the 3000 block of County Road 500 E, downing power lines. The suspect then continued to flee on foot. Multiple agencies assisted in the search for the suspect, utilizing small unmanned aircraft systems (drones) and K-9s.Â
The suspect was identified as David Justin Ball, 37, of Anderson, Indiana. Ball was later located and taken into custody by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department after a citizen reported an individual matching the suspect’s description walking down a nearby roadway. Ball was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie for medical evaluation and later booked into the Delaware County Jail.
Further investigation revealed Ball had an active warrant out of Madison County for Possession of Narcotics. He now faces preliminary additional charges, including:
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, a Level 6 felony.
- Reckless Driving, a Class A misdemeanor.
- Criminal Recklessness, a Class B misdemeanor.
Trooper Cosgrove was assisted in this investigation by several troopers from the Pendleton District, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, the Muncie Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Madison County EMS, and Miller’s Wrecker Service.
All suspects listed in this news release are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
