Indiana State Police implement new comment moderation policy

JASPER — The Indiana State Police (ISP) has activated a new comment moderation policy across all its social media platforms, including the Indiana State Police – Jasper District page, aiming to maintain a respectful and safe online environment.

The department stated its commitment to ensuring that hate speech, threats, harassment, or discriminatory comments will not be tolerated on any of its platforms. The moderation policy is now active 24/7 across all ISP social media accounts.

The ISP’s social media pages serve as a public forum for constructive interaction and to provide timely information on safety issues, community events, department initiatives, and public notices.

Under the terms of use for these platforms, users agree to:

  • Call 911 in case of emergency.
  • Not report crimes or request routine police services via social media; instead, users should call their local police department or ISP District.
  • Understand that posting information about criminal activity may subject them to a subpoena or place them at risk, and that crimes should be reported through appropriate channels.
  • Acknowledge that “liking” or “friending” the page does not imply endorsement of any person’s views or actions by the department.
  • Recognize that comments posted by users do not necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of the department.
  • Understand that external links shared do not constitute endorsement by the department.

The Indiana State Police encourages public comments, questions, and concerns but reserves the right to remove comments or content that violate viewpoint-neutral rules. These include, but are not limited to, incitement to violence or criminal conduct, threats, harassment, hate speech, obscenity, commercial advertisements, repetitive disruptive posts (flooding or trolling), disclosure of confidential or sensitive information, content violating copyright or intellectual property rights, and links to malware, harmful software, or phishing sites.

The full policy is available in a pinned post on the ISP’s social media pages.
