MITCHELL— A Mitchell man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly threatening juveniles with a machete and resisting officers who attempted to detain him, according to police.

Covey Allen Eisele, 51, was taken into custody on July 24 and faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor, and battery, a Class B misdemeanor.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Sgt. Jacob Kuhlman of the Mitchell Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:13 p.m. to Deckard Drive following a report that a man—identified as Eisele—was threatening juveniles while riding a bicycle and carrying a machete. A resident at the scene told police that Eisele had a history of causing disturbances at the location and was frequently seen carrying a machete.
Officer McMillen located a man matching Eisele’s description near 13th Street. When Officer McMillen attempted to speak with him, Eisele allegedly ignored commands, rode away on his bicycle, and fled onto a nearby soccer field after officers blocked his path with a patrol vehicle.
Additional officers from the Lawrence County Police Department—Officers Carter, Pope, and Flynn—responded to assist. During the attempted arrest, police say Eisele resisted commands, pulled away from Sgt. Kuhlman then grabbed Captain Pope by the neck. Officers then brought him to the ground and placed him in handcuffs.
Eisele was evaluated by IU Health Bedford EMS personnel and transported to the hospital for further examination. He was released from medical care later that night and booked into the Lawrence County Security Center without further incident.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the Probable Cause Affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
