BLOOMINGTON– Mayor Kerry Thomson issued the following statement today regarding police activity at Seminary Park:
“On Thursday, Bloomington police officers conducted a planned operation targeting illegal drug dealing at Seminary Park. This action followed an investigation into reports of criminal activity in the area.
“As Mayor, ensuring our community’s safety and well-being is my top priority. That means taking action when we are aware of behavior that endangers the public and puts those experiencing substance use disorder at further risk.
“Predatory, criminal behavior will not be tolerated in Bloomington. We are committed to ensuring that our city remains safe and welcoming to all residents and visitors, and that our most vulnerable residents are protected from predators seeking profit.
“We recognize that enforcement is only one piece of the solution. That is why we are intent on supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery to address the root causes of these complex issues.
“I will remain focused on ensuring that our most vulnerable are treated with dignity and respect, while also affirming our commitment to a better, safer Bloomington.”
