Cooling Centers open across Indiana as extreme heat grips state

INDIANA – As Indiana anticipates several days of extreme summer temperatures, cooling centers are opening statewide to provide a safe and cool refuge for residents. Indiana 211, a division of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), is serving as the primary resource for updated locations and hours of these centers across various communities.

Hoosiers in need of a cooling center are encouraged to dial 2-1-1 or call 866-211-9966 to find their nearest available location. A current list of cooling centers is also accessible via a dedicated online resource click here.

Indiana 211 is urging community partners and media outlets to share this vital information across social media channels to ensure public awareness that help is available during this period of high heat. They also encourage following IN211’s official social media pages for real-time updates.

Organizations or facilities wishing to report or add a cooling center to the statewide list can do so by contacting the Indiana 211 resource team via email at in211database@fssa.in.gov.
