BEDFORD – A Bedford man is facing a preliminary battery charge after an alleged physical altercation at an apartment on Industrial Park Drive.

Albert Hughes

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the male victim and a female. The male stated that Albert Hughes, who had been drinking with them in the apartment, fell asleep. The male victim recounted that he attempted to wake Hughes by tapping him with his foot and offering another drink. The male victim alleged that Hughes then, unprovoked, rose and began striking him with both closed fists and open hands. The male victim claimed Hughes hit him multiple times in the face, back, rib area, and private area, resulting in redness and pain to his face, back, and ribs, as well as a large scratch on his lower left back. A female witness corroborated the victim’s account.

The female witness contacted authorities after the alleged assault, and Hughes left the scene. The male victim expressed a desire to pursue charges against Hughes.

Officers attempted to make contact with Hughes at his apartment, but he reportedly spoke through the door and did not open it or come outside.

The male victim was transported to IU Health Bedford for evaluation of his injuries and signed a battery affidavit and an authorization to release medical information.

Officer Turner has requested a warrant for Hughes’ arrest.
