BEDFORD – A Paoli man was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Corrections on Wednesday, July 16, by Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III, following his failure to comply with the terms of his probation.

Christopher P. Sowers, 45, had previously pleaded guilty to stalking, a Level 5 felony, as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. Sowers was initially sentenced to a three-year term in the Indiana Department of Corrections, with the entirety of that sentence suspended, resulting in two years of supervised probation.
However, after numerous violations of his probation terms and conditions, Sowers’ suspended sentence was revoked. Judge Plummer subsequently ordered the suspended sentence into execution, committing Sowers to two years and 135 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections, with credit for 26 actual days already served in jail.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings commented on the sentencing, stating, “This Defendant was allowed to stay in the community and work with probation to rehabilitate his life. However, the Defendant continued to use drugs and lie to his probation officer. If someone chooses not to try to rehabilitate their life then the appropriate result is prison.”
