Obituary: Eleanor Jane Mundy

October 10, 1934 – July 12, 2025

Eleanor Jane Mundy, 90, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Cedar Creek Senior Living, Bedford, Indiana.

She was born October 10, 1934, in Martin County, Indiana, to Raymond and Christine (Burton) Mundy.  Eleanor was a member of Huron Baptist Church, Huron WTK Club, and the Mitchell Fleur De Lis.

Eleanor graduated from Huron High School in 1952.  Her working career started while in high school, assisting the Huron Postmaster after school.  Eleanor retired from NSWC, Crane, where she worked in several positions in personnel.  These included the issuance of ID badges and the reconciliation of travel expenses, which involved interaction with thousands of Crane employees over her decades of employment.

Eleanor’s favorite activity was cooking great meals for family and friends.  She was an excellent cook and prepared feasts for Sunday dinners, birthdays, etc.  Eleanor was a very kind and gentle person, and always willing to help others.  Her kindness extended to loving and feeding stray animals.  She resided in her own home until just a few months ago, when failing health required medical treatment.

She is survived by three brothers, Gordon (Dolores) Mundy, Gary (Joelle) Mundy, and Marty (Becky) Mundy.  Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Sailor Schofield, Troy Mundy, Stan Mundy, Kent Mundy, Owen (Joelle) Mundy, Reed (Sarabeth) Mundy, Sara Christine Mundy, Justin Mundy, and Nathan (Amanda) Mundy; along with several great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her parents, brothers, Graydon Mundy and Stanley Howard Mundy, and sister, Joyce Mundy, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16th, at the Huron Baptist Church with Reverend William ‘Skip’ Matthews officiating.  Burial will be in Clark Cemetery.  A meal will be provided at the Church afterwards. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15th, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made in Eleanor’s memory to the White River Humane Society https://whiteriverhumanesociety.org/help-us.
