Disregarding stop light results in fatal accident in Vigo County

VIGO CO. – The Indiana State Police is investigating a crash between a pickup truck and the passenger vehicle that occurred on July 13, 2025, at the intersection of Springhill Drive and McDaniel Road, that claimed one life.

Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Ted Robertson indicates that at approximately 10:30 a.m., a 2009 Chevrolet passenger vehicle driven by Rickie Killion, age 70, of Sullivan, Indiana, was traveling westbound on Springhill Drive.  Killion failed to stop at the red traffic signal at the intersection and attempted to turn south on McDaniel Road.  Killion’s vehicle was then struck by a 2019 Ford pickup traveling northbound on McDaniel Road, driven by Kenneth Sullivan, age 67, of Citrus Heights, California.  The momentum of the collision caused Killion’s vehicle to make one complete rollover, coming to a stop on its wheels.  Both vehicles came to a final stop at the intersection.

Kenneth Sullivan and two other individuals were transported to a local hospital in Terre Haute for immediate medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Chevrolet, Rickie Killion, was also transported to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

The accident is being reconstructed by Trooper Rondell Shelton of the Putnamville State Police Post with the assistance of other troopers.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor to the accident.

Family members have been notified.
