Mitchell unveils new basketball and pickleball courts at City Park

MITCHELL— The City of Mitchell has completed construction of new basketball and pickleball courts at Mitchell City Park, thanks to funding provided by the Lawrence County Community Foundation’s (LCCF) Vision Grant and Mitchell Heritage Grant programs.

The project marks a significant investment in recreational infrastructure and reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents. City officials say the courts will offer expanded opportunities for physical activity, youth engagement, and community connection.

Funding for the project included a Heritage Grant supported by the Mitchell Community Heritage Fund, an endowment managed by the LCCF. The fund was established to support long-term community improvement projects in Mitchell.

Mitchell Mayor Don Caudell said of the occasion:

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your support in making our new basketball and pickleball courts a reality. Your commitment to enhancing our community spaces means so much, and thanks to your generosity, we now have a place where people of all ages can come together, stay active, and enjoy the games they love.

Seeing these courts come to life will serve as a lasting testament to your kindness and investment in our community. Whether it’s a pickup basketball game or a friendly pickleball match, these courts will bring joy to many.

Thank you for believing in this project and helping make it happen.

I would especially like to thank our project donors. Our basketball court was sponsored by donations from:

  • Lawrence Co Community Foundation
  • Bedford Federal Savings Bank
  • Capstone Ministries
  • Old National Bank
  • Holmes Hardware
  • The Cox Family
  • Ace Hardware

Our pickleball courts were funded by the Lawrence County Community Foundation, through “The Mitchell Community Heritage Grant,” with additional funding by the City of Mitchell.

On behalf of the Mitchell Community, I want to thank you for believing in this project and helping make it happen. We appreciate you!

Mayor Don Caudell
