Bedford releases tentative fire hydrant flushing schedule

BEDFORD— The City of Bedford has released a tentative schedule for fire hydrant flushing, beginning the evening of Sunday, July 6. The routine maintenance is expected to continue through Thursday, July 17, and may cause temporary changes in water pressure or discoloration for some customers.

The schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions and daily progress. If inclement weather occurs, flushing operations will be postponed or canceled.

During the flushing process, residents may notice a temporary drop in water pressure and possible discoloration of their tap water. City officials recommend running cold water until it clears before using hot water or doing laundry to prevent staining or damage to fabrics.

The tentative flushing schedule is as follows:

  • Sunday Night & Monday Night, July 6–7:
Areas south of 19th Street and west of Mitchell Road, including Broadview Addition, Fresenius Medical Care, St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Garden Villa, Bliss House, and Stonebridge.
  • Tuesday Night & Wednesday Night, July 8–9:
16th Street west of M Street, Edgewood Addition, IU Health Bedford, Bex Addition, and Westview Manor.
  • Thursday Night, July 10 & Sunday Night, July 13:
East of Mitchell Road and south of 16th Street, including Brook Knoll, Glen Meadows, Shandell Drive, and Core Nursing Home.
  • Monday Night & Tuesday Night, July 14–15:
John Williams Boulevard, all of Lincoln Avenue, 15th & M west, and 8th Street south to 16th Street.
  • Wednesday Night & Thursday Night, July 16–17:
Areas east of Lincoln Avenue and north of 15th Street.

City officials urge residents to be mindful of the changes and to postpone non-essential water use if discoloration occurs. Updates to the schedule will be announced if weather or operational delays require adjustments.
