Obituary: Margaret Eleanor Hess

April 3, 1927 – July 5th, 2025

Margaret Eleanor Hess, 98, of Springville, IN, left us peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the IU Hospice House in Bloomington, IN.

Margaret was born on April 3, 1927, in Springville, IN. She was the daughter of Cleveland and Thelma Arthur. She married Thomas David Hess on October 24, 1947, and they built a home filled with love. They would have been married 77 years this year.

Margaret was known for her warm smile and generous spirit, delicious candies and homemade cakes, and cookies. She enjoyed hunting mushrooms, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and cake decorating. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Margaret was a woman of strong faith and was a member of the Trinity Pentecostal Mission, Springville, IN. She retired from Eli-Lilly.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Anne Saunders, her children, Camille Bender, of Whiteland, In. Tom Hess, of Springville, IN. Grandchildren, Monica (Paul) Ayers, Chandler (Teri) Seagraves, Angela (Mark) Darnell, Jeremy (Krisha) McCain, Michelle Hess-Wright, Misty Newland, Dallas Parsley, and Jackie (Marci) Parsley. Great Grandchildren, Courtney Coutinho, John and Kyle O’Conner, Georgie Seagraves, Ashley Masters, Thomas Long, Jeremy J., Addy and Angel McCain, Dylan, Abigael and Alexandria Parsley, Rachelle Sluss, Cheyenne, Johnnie, and Jacob Maners. And 21 Great-great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleveland and Thelma Arthur, her beloved husband Thomas David Hess, her son, Gerald Lee Parsley, her daughter Lois Marie Seagraves, her sisters Jewell Reuter, Maudie Walker, her brothers James A., Roy L., Ray W., and Joseph W. Arthur.

Funeral Services for Margaret will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Ferguson- Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, with Brother Kenneth Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Beyers and Rainbolt Cemetery in Popcorn, IN. Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
