Sexually violent predator arrested for failure to update driver’s license

MITCHELL – A Mitchell man, classified as a sexually violent predator, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly failing to possess a valid Indiana driver’s license with his current address, a Level 6 Felony.

According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Lawrence County Police Department Officer Chad Hillenburg, Dustin Mills, 45, was taken into custody.

On May 27, 2025, Mills, a registered sexually violent predator with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, completed a change of information form for his new address on Meridian Road. On May 29, Officer Hillenburg spoke with Mills by phone, reminding him of the 30-day requirement to update his driver’s license or ID with the new information. The change of information form Mills signed also included bold, highlighted text reinforcing this 30-day requirement, which Mills initialed. Additionally, the Regular SVOR form, which outlines rules for sexually violent predators, consists of the requirement for a valid driver’s license or ID card.

On July 2, 2025, Mills visited the Sheriff’s Office to report a change in his vehicles. As a standard procedure, Officer Hillenburg asked to see his ID. Mills presented an Indiana driver’s license that still showed his previous address in Paoli. Officer Hillenburg confirmed through a BMV search that the address on the license had not been updated.

Upon confirmation, Mills was placed into custody for failure to possess a valid driver’s License by a Sexually Violent Predator. He was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail and booked in.

Criminal history records indicate that Dustin Mills pleaded guilty to child molesting, a Level 3 Felony, on June 23, 2015. Records from Offender Watch confirm that the Indiana Department of Corrections classifies Mills as a sexually violent predator with a lifetime registration requirement.
