Daviess County Sheriff’s Office warns businesses of misleading advertising sales

WASHINGTONThe Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is warning local business owners about a marketing company named Five Fish, which is reportedly soliciting advertising sales under pretenses.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, “Five Fish” is contacting local businesses to sell advertising space on magnets intended for distribution to area residents. The concern arises because the company is allegedly telling business owners that the Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring or endorsing this magnet advertising initiative.

“Businesses have reported that callers imply the Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring or endorsing the magnet project,” stated a representative from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. “After agreeing to place an advertisement, businesses then receive invoices for the promotional space.”

The Sheriff’s Office wants to make it explicitly clear that while “Five Fish” is a legitimate company that produces and sells promotional magnets, it is not affiliated with them in any way.

“The Sheriff’s Office wants to clarify that it is not affiliated with the company or this advertising initiative in any way,” the department reiterated. “We do not have a current partnership with Five Fish and do not sponsor or endorse its magnet advertising campaigns.”

Business owners are advised to be aware of this tactic and to verify any claims of endorsement or sponsorship directly with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office if they are approached by “Five Fish” or similar companies.
