NEW HAVEN – The Indiana State Police have been requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting that stemmed from a traffic stop on Saturday morning, June 28, at about 8:30 a.m.
The preliminary investigation shows a New Haven Police Department Officer attempted to make a traffic stop near Maplecrest Road and State Road 930 when the suspect fired a weapon out of their car towards the New Haven Officer.
The New Haven Officer then returned fire, but did not strike the suspect. The suspect fled the scene, and a pursuit began.
The suspect was later taken into custody after a successful Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) performed by an Indiana State Police Trooper. There were no injuries as a result of the shooting, pursuit, or PIT maneuver.
New Haven Police officers arrested the suspect.
Currently, the Indiana State Police does not have any further information available to release. This is an ongoing investigation, and once complete, it will be turned over to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
