Flooding closes multiple roads in Lawrence County

BEDFORD — Heavy rainfall overnight combined with releases from the Monroe Dam have led to significant localized flooding, prompting the closure of several roads in Lawrence County.

Brian Sowder, Superintendent of the Lawrence County Highway Department, issued a statement today advising the public of affected roadways.

The following roads are currently underwater and closed to traffic:

  • Donica Church Road
  • Judah-Logan Road
  • Little Salt Creek Road
  • Peerless Road (specifically at McFadden Bridge and Old 37)

Signs indicating the closures have either been posted or permanent warning signs have been flipped down.

Superintendent Sowder strongly urged the public to exercise extreme caution: “We encourage the public not to cross water, regardless of whether you think you can make it.” Drivers are reminded that attempting to drive through flooded roadways can be extremely dangerous and should be avoided.
