BLOOMFIELD – On Thursday, June 19th, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were dispatched to the parking lot of the Greene County Jail following a report of an individual attempting to steal a staff vehicle.
Upon arrival, deputies located Raymond Steadman walking away from the scene. Jail staff informed deputies that Steadman had been observed trying to open the hood of a grey Toyota Corolla. When confronted, he then entered a grey Hyundai Elantra, owned by another jail staff member, and attempted to drive away. Steadman reportedly drove the vehicle about one car-length before being stopped by jail staff, after which he returned the car to its parking space.

When questioned, Steadman told officers that he believed the grey car was his, identifying his own vehicle as a grey Nissan Altima.
Raymond Steadman has been charged with unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, a Class B misdemeanor, and auto theft, a Level 6 felony.
