INDIANA – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory that remains in effect for portions of central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Indiana until 8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday.
Heat index values are expected to reach as high as 100 to 105 degrees each day. These extreme conditions could lead to heat illnesses.
Residents are urged to take precautions:
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Stay in an air-conditioned room.
- Stay out of the sun.
- Check up on relatives and neighbors.
For those who must be outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. It is crucial to recognize symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and take immediate action. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for outdoor workers. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and 911 should be called immediately.
Daily chances for thunderstorms return for part or all of the region starting next Tuesday. Any storms should be focused during the afternoon to early evening hours. It is too soon to determine if any storms
may be severe.
