Intoxicated man nearly hit by cars while stumbling through Bedford streets

BEDFORD— A man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly stumbling into the roadway and nearly being struck by vehicles in Bedford while intoxicated, according to police.

Law enforcement located the man, identified as Lance Roy, on 7 1/2 Street between O Street and Lincoln Avenue. According to police, Roy exhibited multiple signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol, and unsteady balance. Officers also noted that his clothing was disheveled and appeared soiled.

Roy was holding a brown paper bag containing an opened bottle of Crystal Palace Deluxe Vodka, police said. He initially denied drinking but later admitted to having “a couple of drinks.” A preliminary breath test administered by Officer Jones yielded a blood alcohol content of 0.129%.

Witness statements confirmed that Roy had been seen stumbling in a nearby pharmacy drive-thru and crossing Lincoln Avenue without checking for traffic, forcing multiple vehicles to brake to avoid hitting him.

Roy was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Lawrence County Jail for processing. He faces preliminary charges related to public intoxication.
