Indiana State Police investigate crash as suspect flees from Allen County Drug Task Force

FORT WAYNE – The Indiana State Police was requested to investigate a crash where a driver was fleeing police. Officers from the Allen County Drug Task Force, a joint team of officers from several Allen County police agencies, attempted to make a traffic stop on a white 2004 Cadillac driven by Tyler Alberding, 24, of Fort Wayne.

The preliminary investigation shows that on Monday, June 9, around 1:20 p.m., Alberding fled from police north on North Clinton Street during an attempted traffic stop. While running from police, he struck two vehicles at the intersection of North Clinton Street and Wallen Road.

The Cadillac struck a Silver 2016 Subaru, seriously injuring the driver, Carolyn Hutchinson, 93, of Fort Wayne. Hutchinson was transported from the scene to a local hospital. Later, while at the hospital, Hutchinson succumbed to the injuries she suffered in the crash.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that her family has been notified.

The white Cadillac also hit a red 2015 Ford truck, injuring Larry Zant, 80, of Fort Wayne. Zant was transported from the scene to a local hospital in serious condition.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department arrested Tyler Alberding.

The crash investigation is still ongoing. There is nothing further to be released at this time.
