BEDFORD – A Bedford man on house arrest through Martin County is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia after a home search on Wednesday, March 19.
Viking R. Wright, 43, of 1718 G Street, was the subject of the search conducted by Martin County Community Corrections, assisted by the Bedford Police Department.

Upon arrival, Martin County Community Corrections Officers informed Sgt. Toby Gerkin of the Bedford Police Department said that Wright had shown them a bag containing a crystal-like substance, a debit card with residue, and a plastic tube with residue, which appeared to have been used to snort the substance. The crystal-like substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Wright reportedly consented to a search of his home and admitted he would not pass a drug screen and had been using methamphetamine since his release from incarceration nine days prior. Wright expressed concern that other individuals who had been living in his home while he was incarcerated might have left contraband behind.
During the search, officers located a plastic baggie and a “corner baggie” with crystal-like residue in a trash can in the living room. A rolled-up $1 bill, which Wright admitted would “have stuff on it,” was also seized. Upstairs, numerous prescription bottles belonging to other individuals were found and collected for destruction. In the basement, officers discovered a small tackle box containing multiple old and broken items of drug paraphernalia, which were also collected for destruction.
Sgt. Gerkin stated that Wright was cooperative throughout the interaction. A report regarding the incident was sent to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office for review and a warrant request.
Wright was detained on Thursday, May 29.
A Probable Cause Affidavit outlines the initial findings and allegations that led to an arrest. Criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
