Triple homicide in Haubstadt leaves three dead, one critically injured; Suspect in custody

HAUBSTADT– Three individuals are dead and another is in critical condition following a shooting that occurred in Haubstadt on Thursday night.

The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the suspected shooter is now in custody.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on South Scottsdale Drive near Haubstadt, where they discovered the bodies of two females and one male.

Gibson County Sheriff Bruce Vanoven reported that a 911 call came in at 8:31 p.m. from inside the residence, with one victim stating they had been shot in the face. When deputies arrived, the suspected shooter, 77-year-old Patrick Waite, surrendered at the scene and was taken into custody.

Police found three people dead and one seriously injured. A medical helicopter was dispatched, and multiple emergency agencies responded.

Autopsies for the deceased are scheduled for today. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.

Four other individuals who were inside the residence at the time of the shooting managed to escape without injury.

Waite is currently being held without bond in the Gibson County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder.

Sheriff Vanoven emphasized that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
