BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Police have reported an attempted kidnapping that occurred Friday evening at the AMC movie theater located on West Third Street.
A 7-year-old girl was allegedly grabbed and dragged towards the men’s restroom by an adult male.
According to the Bloomington Police Department, two juvenile girls were exiting a restroom when a man identified as 22-year-old Thomas Stinson of Worthington reportedly seized one of the girls by the arm and attempted to pull her into the men’s bathroom.
The quick-thinking girl resisted by kicking and screaming, successfully escaping from the man and immediately running to the theater lobby to report the incident. Police subsequently located Stinson in the parking lot with a caregiver.
Authorities stated that Stinson’s caregiver indicated he has developmental disabilities. However, police determined that Stinson understood the difference between right and wrong and was able to communicate clearly. Based on this determination, Stinson was arrested and transported to jail.
Stinson is facing preliminary charges of kidnapping and battery. Official charges are pending and will be determined by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jail records indicate that Stinson has since been released on bond.
