MITCHELL– A Mitchell man, Andrew J. Patton, 38, was arrested on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, and is facing a preliminary charge of battery following an altercation reported to the Mitchell Police Department.
According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Officer Austin McKinley, a woman met with police to report an incident that occurred earlier that day. She was working as a driver for Patton and had informed him of several unsafe issues with his vehicle. According to the woman, she made multiple attempts to notify Patton of the problems with the vehicle. He finally instructed her to have the issues fixed so that the vehicle would be safe and drivable.

After repairs totaling $524.00 were made at a local shop, Patton reportedly expressed dissatisfaction and requested a refund. When the repairs were reversed, Patton asked the woman to immediately return the vehicle to his address in Mitchell.
The woman, accompanied by the repairman and the repairman’s girlfriend, arrived at Patton’s residence to return the vehicle. According to the woman, a verbal argument ensued when she asked about payment.
The repairman and his girlfriend reportedly witnessed the entire altercation and saw Patton push the woman, providing voluntary statements to the Mitchell Police Department.
Officer McKinley later spoke with Andrew Patton at his residence, where he provided his version of the events. Patton stated his frustration with the vehicle repairs and claimed the woman began screaming at him upon her arrival. He admitted to pushing her.
Based on the gathered statements, Officer McKinley determined there was probable cause to believe Patton committed battery, and a warrant for his arrest was requested.
Patton was detained on a charge of domestic battery on May 23.
