Vigo County Health Department offers free tire disposal for Greene County storm victims

GREENE CO. – To assist Greene County residents with community restoration following recent severe storms, the Vigo County Health Department (VCHD) will be accepting tires for disposal at no cost. This initiative aims to help clear debris and mitigate potential health and environmental hazards.

Greene County residents can drop off up to 10 tires per household at the Vigo County Health Department – Vector Control Division, located at 1241 7th Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana. The program will run for two weeks, starting Tuesday, May 27, 2025, after the Memorial Day Holiday.

Proof of Greene County residency, such as an ID, will be required at drop-off. The tires collected will be integrated into the VCHD’s Tire Amnesty Program.

Important Details for Tire Drop-Off:

  • By appointment only: Residents must call (812) 234-9181 to schedule a drop-off time.
  • Limit: No more than 10 tires can be dropped off without pre-authorization.
  • Large Tires: Semi tires, tractor tires, or larger require pre-authorization.
  • No Commercial Disposal: Businesses, tire retailers, salvage yards, auto service centers, or trucking companies are prohibited from using this service.
  • Hours: Drop-off hours are 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m..
  • Dates: The program runs from May 22 to June 10.

The Vigo County Health Department emphasizes that it is not responsible for accidents or vehicle damage during the drop-off process.
