MITCHELL– A Mitchell man is facing theft charges following an investigation into a complaint of stolen property and a reported drugging incident at a local residence. Dustin Ross, 35, is implicated in the alleged January 26, 2025, theft from a friend’s home.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Sgt. Whitney Daugherty-Anderson of the Lawrence County Police Department received a call on February 2, 2025, from a male in the 1000 block of Rabbitsville Road who reported that numerous items, including a pistol and two four-wheeler keys, had been stolen from his residence.
The caller told police that on January 25, Ross and his girlfriend were at his home for dinner. He stated he became “really tired” and fell asleep early in the morning of January 26. He woke up on January 27 feeling “drugged” and “sluggish.”
Upon reviewing his home’s video footage, the caller allegedly observed Ross and his girlfriend carrying items to their royal blue Subaru passenger car around 8:45 a.m. on January 26. While the video clips were brief due to camera issues, the caller identified several stolen items carried by the pair.
The caller also provided text messages between himself and Ross, where he asked for his items back, and Ross allegedly responded with threats if police were involved. Furthermore, an accidental voicemail from Ross on the victim’s phone reportedly contained Ross mentioning a “four-wheeler key.”
Using vehicle information provided by the male caller, Mitchell Police Officer G. Jacobs located a green Mustang and a blue Subaru, registered to Ross’s girlfriend, in the 500 block of South 9th Street in Mitchell. Sgt. Daugherty-Anderson was able to identify the woman from the video footage provided by Hancock.
