Voigtschild wins two sectional races as Stars advance to IHSAA regional

SEYMOUR – Bedford North Lawrence sophomore Paige Voigtschild won two individual events during the IHSAA girls track sectional at Seymour on Tuesday night.

The Stars, with three individual winners and a victorious relay, finished fourth in the team standings with 87 points. Brownstown claimed the team title with 117, while Mitchell was sixth with 56. The top three in each event advanced to regional at Bloomington North on May 27.

Voigtschild crossed the line first in the 1600 in 5:30.21, and she defended her sectional title in the 800, clocking 2:29.50. She also teamed with Gracie Simmerman, Madison Chandler and Elise Williams to win the 3200 relay in 10:24.35.

BNL’s Avery Brown won the pole vault with a jump of 8-0.

Other regional qualifiers for the Stars included Williams (second in the 800 in 2:31.93) and Macey Lambrecht (third in the shot put at 33-4).

The Bluejackets advanced Marissa Blais (second in the 100 hurdles in 16.96 and second in the high jump at 5-1) and Brinley Slaughter (third in the 400 in 1:04.29). Mitchell also finished third in the 1600 relay as Jorja Lamm, Eleanor Fountain, Norah Tanksley and Slaughter posted 4:31.67.

Sectional qualifiers from Bloomington, Columbus and Madison will also compete in the regional. The top three in each regional event will advance to the state finals at North Central in Indianapolis on June 7.
