Secured School Safety Grant applications opens June 2 

INDIANA – Indiana schools seeking funding to enhance safety and security can begin applying for the Fiscal Year 2026 Secured School Safety Grant (SSSG) on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. ET. The application window will remain open until 4:30 p.m. ET on Monday, June 30, 2025. Officials emphasize that no late or incomplete applications will be accepted.

The Notice of Funding Opportunity for the FY26 SSSG contains all necessary information for a successful application. Before applying, interested schools must:

  1. Be registered in IntelliGrants.
  2. Have an active bidder number with the state of Indiana.
  3. Have an active supplier number with the state of Indiana.
  4. Sign up for Grant updates.

The grant’s performance period will run from September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2026.

Since its inception in 2014, the SSSG program has awarded over $187 million to support school security initiatives across Indiana. Last year alone, 499 schools received more than $24 million in funding.

The SSSG program provides matching grants to various educational entities, including school corporations, accredited non-public schools, charter schools, and joint coalitions. Allowable expenses for the FY26 SSSG include a wide range of safety and support measures:

  • Employing School Resource Officers (SROs) or Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs).
  • Conducting site vulnerability assessments and/or critical incident digital mapping.
  • Purchasing equipment, hardware, materials, and technology to:
    • Restrict access to school property and classrooms.
    • Assist with visitor management.
    • Expedite notification and access for first responders.
    • Provide staff with door status information.
    • Detect various threats (fire, chemical, visual, audible).
    • Enhance emergency communications.
    • Assist with emergency medical response.
    • Implement student and parent support services plans.
  • Purchasing or training drug, explosive, or firearm detection canines for student and staff protection.
  • Providing training for school employees and SROs/LEOs (including canine handling), covering per diem, travel, and lodging.
  • Designing and constructing school building additions or renovations primarily for physical security enhancement.
  • Implementing bullying prevention programs.
  • A one-time non-matching grant for initial setup costs of active event warning systems in collaboration with the county sheriff.
  • Responding to threats in a manner deemed appropriate by the school, including firearms or self-defense training, or counseling funds after a school shooting.
  • Purchasing student management technology.
  • Developing and implementing “Stop the Bleed”/bleeding control kit programs and purchasing kits.
