Obituary: James N. Norris

July 1, 1944 – May 13, 2025

James N. Norris, 80, of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on July 1, 1944, in Seymour, IN, to Herman Clarence and Francis Elizabeth (Loyd) Norris. Jim was a 1962 graduate of Seymour High School.

He worked as a Union Carpenter for the Indiana Kentucky Local 224 Union for 38 years. Working for Dunlap Construction and Force Construction in Columbus, IN, and then for Wilhelm Construction in Indianapolis, IN, before retiring in 2000. After retirement, he returned to work for Skaggs Builders in Seymour for a few years.

He was a member of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Posse.

Jim loved and cherished his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. His life was a testament to love for his family and hard work. He was an avid IU basketball fan, never missing a game. He enjoyed building. He built a pole barn with his daughter on his property. He also enjoyed camping, riding trails on his horses, riding motorcycles, and being at home, spending time with his family.

His daughters survive Jim, Angela D. Norris of Seymour, IN, and Jennifer L. Iverson of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Aubrie Hinnefeld, Alexander Kraemer, Austin (Allysa) Iverson and Michelle (Doug) Ford; ten great-grandchildren, Greyson Ford, Ryker Ford, Lukes Hinnefeld, Leia Hinnefeld, Ryleigh Kraemer, Avery Kraemer, Barrett Iverson, Charlie Iverson, Emmy, and Lam, his loving companion, Debbie Haskett of Seymour, IN; his brother, Max Norris of Seymour, IN; his sister, Marylin Sauder of Battle Creek, MI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Francis Norris; his son, Joseph Todd Norris; brother, Jack Norris; son-in-law, Neil Iverson; and great-nephew, Matthew Patrick.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Burkholder Funeral Chapel, 419 N. Chestnut St., Seymour, IN, with Rev Matt Scobel officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Burkholder Funeral Chapel.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Columbus Cancer Center or Burkholder Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.
