Farmersburg police nab suspect in burglary spree following community tips

FARMERSBURG—Farmersburg Police have apprehended a suspect in a series of burglaries under investigation. Thirty-three-year-old Tyler Stevenson, originally from Clay City, was taken into custody Tuesday evening, thanks partly to valuable tips from the community.

According to police reports, Stevenson provided a full confession to the alleged crimes. The arrest followed a comprehensive investigation into four incidents over approximately one and a half weeks, prompting multiple responses from law enforcement to 911 calls.

Chief Cody Strain, with the assistance of Officer Trainee Merritt and deputies from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, made the arrest Tuesday evening. Stevenson was subsequently transported to the Sullivan County Jail without any incident.

Farmersburg Police expressed gratitude to the citizens who came forward with information, stating, “FPD thanks the citizens who gave tips—your assistance is greatly appreciated during the investigation.” The department also acknowledged the strong collaborative relationship with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, noting their consistent backup and assistance.

Tyler Stevenson is preliminarily being charged with a multitude of offenses, including:

  • Burglary (3 counts)
  • Attempted Burglary (1 count)
  • Residential Entry (3 counts)
  • Arson (1 count)
  • Theft (1 count)
  • Criminal Mischief (1 count)
  • Disorderly Conduct (4 counts)
  • Criminal Trespass (4 counts)
  • Unlawful use of 911 (1 count)

Criminal charges filed by law enforcement are merely accusations. Under Indiana Law, the county Prosecutor’s Office is responsible for filing charges. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
