Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane announces re-election bid

BARTHOLOMEW CO. – Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane announced his intention to seek a second term in office.

“Serving as your sheriff has been the honor of my career,” Lane stated. “Over the past two years, we’ve made great strides in making our county safer, enhancing law enforcement initiatives, and building stronger relationships with the community. But there is still work to be done.”

During his current tenure, which began on December 30, 2022, after running unopposed in both the primary and general elections, Sheriff Lane highlighted his focus on community policing, advancements in technology, deputies’ training, and the implementation of initiatives aimed at combating drug-related crimes and mental health crises. He also emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Looking towards his re-election campaign, Sheriff Lane outlined his key priorities:

  • Public Safety First: Continuing efforts to reduce crime and improve emergency response times.
  • Community Engagement: Expanding programs that foster trust between law enforcement and residents.
  • Fighting the Drug Epidemic: Strengthening partnerships to combat substance abuse and provide resources for recovery.
  • Enhancing Training & Resources: Ensuring deputies have the tools and education to serve effectively.

Sheriff Lane has been a resident of Bartholomew County since 1991, marking the beginning of his career in law enforcement. Before being elected as the 59th sheriff of Bartholomew County, succeeding the term-limited former Sheriff Matt Myers, Lane spent over 20 years with the Columbus Police Department. In 2015, he was appointed Chief Deputy in the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.

A graduate of Vincennes University, Lane also completed coursework at Indiana University and the Drug Enforcement Administration. He graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy in 2018
