Obituary: Billy Don Baker

October 5, 1938 – April 30, 2025

Billy Don Baker, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 3:45 pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at I.U. Health Hospice House.

Born October 5, 1938, he was the son of Charles K. and Ilene (Harvey) Baker. He was a graduate of Heltonville High School in the class of 1958. He married Janice Kay Bailey in June 1959, and she survives. Bill went to work at Travelers in Orleans. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from October 1961 to October 1963. After his discharge, he went to work for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in 1963 as a service manager. He became the store manager in 1980, retiring in 1996. Bill was of the Christian faith and a member of New Hope Community Church. He was a past member of the Bedford Lions Club. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, and mowing lawns.

Survivors include his wife, Janice; a son, Brent Alan Baker; a brother, Jim Baker, of Mitchell; a sister, Judy Mason, of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles K. Baker, Jr. and Fred Baker; two sisters, Katie Lantz and Carolyn Wellman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 5 th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Mike Eads officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services.
