VERMILLION CO. – The Indiana State Police initiated a criminal investigation in October 2024, after receiving information that an adult male had inappropriately touched a female child under the age of 14.
The investigation revealed that Carthell D. Jeys Jr., age 40, of Cayuga, IN, allegedly committed sexual misconduct with a female child in Vermillion County. The investigation also revealed that he had child pornography.
After reviewing the information, the Vermillion County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant. Jeys was arrested this evening by the Indiana State Police Central SWAT Team without incident. Carthell D. Jeys Jr. is currently being held in the Vermillion County Jail without bond on two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
Investigating Officers: Indiana State Police Detective Colton Maynor of the Putnamville District and Deputy John Hawkins of the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department.
Assisting Agencies: Lake County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Center, Internet Crimes Against Children Indiana Task Force, troopers of the Putnamville State Police Post, and the State Police Central SWAT Team.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
