Wrong-way driver and passenger arrested for cocaine possession after dog alerts officers

WASHINGTON – A Petersburg man and a Linton woman were arrested on Saturday, April 26, after a traffic stop for a wrong-way driving infraction led to the discovery of suspected cocaine.

According to the Washington Police Department, a 2nd shift patrol officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle observed traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way street, directly past the police department. The driver was identified as 30-year-old Jason Hammock of Petersburg, and the passenger was identified as 36-year-old Kailee McKee of Linton.

During the traffic stop, the WPD officer was assisted by a Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputy and their K9 partner, Focus. Focus conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and reportedly gave a positive indication for the presence of the odor of illegal narcotics.

Based on the K9’s alert, officers searched the vehicle. During the search, they reported locating approximately 10 grams of suspected cocaine.

Both Jason Hammock and Kailee McKee were arrested at the scene without incident. They face preliminary charges of dealing in cocaine and possession of cocaine.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
