MITCHELL– Mitchell Community Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Todd R. Tanksley as the district’s new Superintendent, effective immediately. Tanksley brings over 25 years of extensive experience and a strong record of leadership within the education sector to this pivotal role.
A familiar face within the Mitchell community, Tanksley currently serves as the Principal of Mitchell High School. His career also includes a significant tenure as Assistant Superintendent at Borden-Henryville School Corporation. During his time there, he held responsibilities encompassing human resources, district safety coordination, early childhood programming, and transportation services. His leadership has been instrumental in driving school improvement initiatives, elevating student performance, and introducing innovative programs such as the Early College High School and trimester scheduling.
Tanksley’s academic foundation is rooted in Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. He furthered his education at Oakland City University, obtaining a Master of Arts in Teaching with Administrative Licensure and an Education Specialist degree in Superintendency. Demonstrating his commitment to school safety, he is a certified Indiana School Safety Specialist is currently pursuing certification as a Certified School Business Official through the Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO).
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Tanksley stated, “I am honored and count it a true privilege to have the opportunity to lead Mitchell Community Schools. I am a product of Mitchell High School and have spent time here as both a teacher and an administrator, and I have a great deal of pride in my hometown. I believe our schools are the lifeblood of our community and look forward to developing a culture and climate our entire community is proud of.”
