WEST LAFAYETTE—Indiana is quickly becoming a key production hub for cancer-fighting radiopharmaceuticals, with more than a dozen manufacturers. What are they?
Kara Weatherman, a clinical professor of pharmacy practice at Purdue College of Pharmacy, explains that small amounts of radioactive material are combined with medicine to target and treat cancer.
Because the materials break down quickly, the drugs must be made and delivered fast. That’s fueling demand for specially trained radiopharmacists.
Weatherman says with more of these therapies hitting the market, the need for experts is only growing.
