BEDFORD – North Daviess needed two trips for one win. It was worth the mileage.

After a lightning storm and inclement weather forced the suspension of the match at Bedford North Lawrence on Thursday, the Cougars completed the mission on Friday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over the Stars.

While the Stars could not claim any sets on the five courts, they did battle back to win points.

“Major progress,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “When we had the lightning warning, I was upset because we weren’t moving our feet at all. That was a huge thing. When they came out today, they moved so much better.

“We won games, and it was not the other team messing up. It was us doing what we needed to do to win the point. That’s good improvement. It shows you have a strong mental game.”

Amaya McBride recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Emma Conover at No.1 singles, Macy Anderson swept past Bailey Guthrie 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Adalyn Smith stopped Jada Key 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.

In doubles, Meah Dalrymple and Gracelyn Byer topped Lauren Salzmann and Ann Curtis 6-1, 6-1 at No.1, while Maleah Lengacher and Emma Taylor defeated Claire Edwards and Emma Voris 6-2, 6-3 at No.2.

BNL will visit Paoli on Saturday.

BNL’s Lauren Salzmann hits a forehand return during her match at No.1 doubles.
