BEDFORD— The City of Bedford Plan Commission voted unanimously on Monday to advance a proposal from the owner of the Sunoco Gas Station at 2507 16th Street, setting the stage for a public hearing on plans to redevelop the site.
During the preliminary hearing held at the City Concourse, commissioners reviewed a request for a special exception permit to construct a new fuel station and convenience store on the lot located behind the current Sunoco location. The site, familiar to long-time Bedford residents as the former Sprint station, would undergo significant changes if the proposal moves forward.
Under the plan, the existing structure would be demolished, leaving the current lot open for customer parking. The new station and store would occupy the northern adjacent lot, allowing for an updated facility and improved layout.
After a brief discussion, the commission voted in favor of the special exception permit, with all members in agreement. The matter will now proceed to a public hearing, where residents will have the opportunity to provide input on the proposal.
