Indiana House approves bill requiring Medicaid recipients to work

STATEHOUSE – The Indiana House has passed a bill requiring most Medicaid recipients to work or volunteer for 20 hours a week.

The bill does include exemptions for individuals with disabilities and caregivers.

Representative Brad Barrett (R-Richmond

Republican Representative Brad Barrett of Richmond, sponsoring the bill, argues that Medicaid is the state’s fastest-growing expenditure. He believes that steps need to be taken to limit enrollment to ensure that the program can be provided to Indiana’s most financially vulnerable residents.
