INDIANA – Popular sausage maker Johnsonville has issued a voluntary recall on approximately 22,672 pounds of its cheddar bratwurst product, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Saturday, April 5th.

The recall comes after the company received two customer complaints reporting the potential presence of foreign material, specifically hard plastic, in the sausages.
The affected product is limited to Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst and can be identified by the package code B9FOD. According to the FSIS, the potentially contaminated sausages were produced on February 5, 2025.
“FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the agency stated in its recall announcement. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
The potentially affected cheddar bratwurst was shipped to retail locations in the following states: Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled Johnsonville Cheddar Bratwurst with the specified package code are strongly advised not to eat them. Instead, they should discard the product immediately or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
Individuals with questions or concerns about this recall can email Johnsonville’s Consumer Relations coordinator, Amanda Fritsch, at anachtweyfritsch@johnsonville.com.
This voluntary recall underscores the importance of food safety and the commitment of both Johnsonville and the FSIS to ensuring the safety of the products consumers purchase. Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers for the affected product and take the necessary steps outlined in the recall notice.
