BEDFORD – Lawrence County Treasurer Penny Cobb has announced that the 2025 property tax statements will be mailed to residents starting today, Monday, April 7th. Property owners are reminded that the spring installment payment is due on Monday, May 12, 2025.
The Treasurer’s Office, located at 916 15th Street, Room 27 in Bedford, will be open for in-person payments Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. However, the office will be closed on Friday, April 18th, in observance of Good Friday. The Assessor’s and Recorder’s Offices will also be closed on this date.
Treasurer Cobb advises that while not mandatory, bringing your tax statement with you will help expedite the payment process for those paying in person. The office will accept cash, checks, or money orders.
Those wishing to pay with a credit or debit card can call the toll-free number 1-888-654-3143 (a property number is required, and a fee will apply) or use the county’s tax payment website https://lawrencecounty.egovpayments.com (a fee also applies for online payments). Please note that credit and debit card payments are not accepted in person at the Treasurer’s Office.
Current tax information and credit card payment details are available online at www.lawrencecounty.in.gov/202/treasurer.
Residents with questions regarding their property’s assessed value and appeal options should contact the Assessor’s Office at 812-275-5405. Inquiries about property tax deductions and bill calculations should be directed to the Auditor’s Office at 812-275-3111. Residents can contact the Treasurer’s Office directly at 812-275-2431 for questions regarding tax bill payment.
An additional payment option is available through a drop box outside the Treasurer’s office door. Those using the drop box are asked to place their payment coupon along with their payment in a sealed envelope and include contact information in case the office needs to reach them. If a paid receipt is desired for drop-off or mailed payments, a self-addressed stamped envelope must be included with the payment.
For those choosing to mail their payments, Treasurer Cobb strongly advises taking the payment to the post office and having it officially postmarked with the date of mailing. Payments received after the May 12th deadline without a postmark on or before that date will be considered late. The Treasurer’s Office has noted an increasing issue with mail arriving without or with postmarks applied later in the postal process.
The Treasurer’s Office will be closed to the public for two weeks starting May 13th to process all on-time mail payments. However, residents can still call the office at 812-275-2431 if they have any questions.
