MARTINSVILLE – A person attempting to commit a burglary in Martinsville was shot and killed by the homeowner on Sunday afternoon, according to the Martinsville Police Department.
Officers responded to a call in the 500 block of West Pike Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6th, following a report of an attempted burglary in progress.
In a press release, the Martinsville Police Department stated that the homeowner was present at the time of the attempted break-in and was armed. The homeowner subsequently shot and killed the suspect.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of either the homeowner or the deceased individual, pending notification of their respective families.
The Martinsville Police Department is investigating the incident. As the investigation progresses, further details are expected to be released.
